Classes and Meditation
“When you make the present moment the focal point of your life, instead of your past and future, your ability to enjoy what you do—-and with it, the quality of your life increases dramatically” ~ Eckhart Tolle
ONE DAY WORKSHOP ~ November 2, 2024
BREATHING IN and BREATHING OUT
Feeling into the Embodied Presence of our Current Collective Polycrisises
How and where are you holding the current collective trauma we are residing in?
Where in the Window of Tolerance are you? Hypo or Hyperarousal?
How do you resource yourself when you are in empathetic distress? Grief?
How do you stay connected to your ground amid our collective trauma?
In this one-day retreat at the serene Asilomar Conference Grounds, we will delve into the collective traumas that shape our lives—political unrest, wars, COVID, and climate change. How do these stressors manifest in our daily experiences? How do they affect our nervous system, mood, and energy?
Together, we’ll explore how to recognize and understand our suffering by connecting our inner landscape with the outer one. Through somatic awareness of our emotions and bodies, we will begin to uncover where grief and beauty coexist in our hearts. We’ll engage in art-making and mindful walks along ocean paths to reflect on this balance.
By the end of the day, we’ll have discovered meaningful ways to resource and support ourselves amidst these complex times.
WHEN: November 2, 2024, 10 am to 5 pm. LIMITED SPACE AVAILABLE
WHERE: Asilomar State Conference Grounds. Specific building location will be given at registration.

Compassion Training
“The idea behind compassion training is the suggestion that if we pay conscious attention to that part of who we are and tap into it, we can learn to make compassion a more conscious part of who we are and then find ways to relate to situations and the world around us, including ourselves, from a more proactive compassionate standpoint.”
Thupten Jinpa, Ph.D., CEO and President, Compassion Institute

🪷 Learn mindfulness, loving-kindness, and compassion practices.
🪷 Learn formal and informal daily practices with intention setting. Each week a guided meditation will be provided. These meditations will be available for use post-class.
🌟 Compassion Cultivation Training intends to provide a structured and systematic way to develop compassion for one’s self and others. Cultivating compassion has the potential to improve communication, increase resilience to stress, and compassion fatigue, as well as enhance feelings of well-being. In-class activities include lectures, guided compassion cultivation exercises, and dyadic and group exercises. As the class is cumulative, as each week builds on the previous sessions, it is important to attend as many of the 8 weeks as possible. If you know you will miss more than 2 sessions, please do not sign up for the course at this time. Participants are expected to commit 15-30 minutes a day to a compassion meditation practice at home. Readings, research, and guided compassion meditations are provided for each week.
Taught by Meika Hamisch, LMFT ~ Senior CCT™ Teacher
COST: $350 ~ PAST STUDENT DISCOUNT: $250
💫 As part of this class, you have the additional opportunity to participate in an independent research study. The study is being conducted by Dr. Clifford Saron and his colleagues at the Center for Mind and Brain at the University of California, Davis. They are investigating the effects of compassion-based training on reactions to social and emotional scenes and situations and on interpersonal experiences in daily life.
If you choose to participate, you will be asked to complete 3 assessments and will be compensated up to $230 for your time. The 3 assessments would be completed from your own home and would take place the week before your course begins, the week after your course ends, and 8 weeks after your course ends. Participation in this research is entirely optional and is not part of the training you will receive in your class. If you are interested in learning more about the study, please follow this link to see if you are eligible to participate.
IMPORTANT: To participate in this research study, you must fully enroll in your class at least four days before the official class start date.

“Enough. These few words are enough.
If not these words, this breath.
If not this breath, this sitting here.
This opening to life

again and again
until now.
Until now.”
